Galvanic skin response (GSR), is the property of the human body that causes continuous variation in the electrical characteristics of the skin. The long history of research into the active and passive electrical properties of the skin by a variety of disciplines has resulted in an excess of names thus, GSR has also been known as skin conductance, electrodermal activity (EDA), electrodermal response (EDR), psychogalvanic reflex (PGR), skin conductance response (SCR), sympathetic skin response (SSR) and skin conductance level (SCL).
Widely accepted theory is that skin resistance varies with the state of sweat glands in the skin. Sweating is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system and skin conductance is an indication of psychological or physiological arousal. If the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system is highly aroused, then sweat gland activity also increases, which in turn increases skin conductance. In this way, skin conductance can be a measure of emotional and sympathetic responses but research continues into the source and significance of GSR. The GSR method has already shown to be correlated with sympathetic activity that is also demonstrated to be correlated with the level of arousal.
Neurolize uses GSR to determine the emotional state of the participants that arousal has been a crucial dimension for.
Neurolize focuses on making neuromarketing more accessible and devices play a crucial role for this purpose. We are tirelessly working to catch up with the cutting-edge device technology and provide more options for our users.
That’s why we created an infrastructure which makes it easy for device manufacturers to integrate with Neurolize for free. We support common protocols such as Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) and provide an easy to use API to ensure the best performance possible.
We are always interested in new techniques and devices that can be utilized by behavioral researchers. Contact us to get the necessary documents and learn more about integration process.
